April 3, 2025: Spring Auction
Presented is a truly stunning bit of artwork picturing the 50 cards in the fabled 1888 Allen & Ginter Indian Chiefs nonsport cards issue. The American Indian Chiefs cards are arguably the most attractive nonsport productions of the period, with incredibly intricate and colorful artwork depicting all the key American Indian figures, along with the requisite advertising plugs for Richmond Straight Cut No. 1 and Virginia Brights and Pet Cigarettes. The massive 29-by-21-inch piece presents decently despite the technical designation of Poor that stems from some paper loss sections from the poster that is affixed to an extremely heavy board. The damage seems to affect no more than three or four of the elegant cards that boast bold and vivid colors showcasing artwork that is the equal to any of the remarkable Allen & Ginter 19th and early 20th century baseball sets.
