Any esteemed vintage baseball card gathering could not be considered complete without a vintage pre-WWI card of the incomparable Ty Cobb, and no affordable Ty Cobb cardboard memento could possibly be more renowned and desirable than the iconic T206 red portrait Cobb reflecting the majestic Carl Horner portrait Cobb image. It is this crown jewel that is presented here in a spectacular PSA 5 holder. Still holder of the highest major league lifetime batting average, Ty Cobb is arguably one of the top 5 ballplayers of all-time and is a 1936 charter member of baseball’s illustrious Hall of Fame. No wonder enthusiasts look to augment their collections with “turn of the century” Cobb keepsakes with NONE more hallowed than the historic red portrait T206 Ty Cobb. His classic headshot pose portrays outstanding facial colored hues, immaculate focus and a near flawless robust red background. The image reveals fine centering, and is situated between four relatively clean white borders exhibiting only some modest toning along the two vertical borders. Four square corners depict only minimal “touching” at the utmost corner tips, no glaring surface blemishes are evident and the reverse side “Sweet Caporal Cigarettes 350 Subjects ” red advertisement resides on a somewhat toned surface. Listed as one of the “Top 250 Sportscards” in PSA’s renowned publication, no card could possibly inspire a vintage collector more effectively than a high-grade T206 Ty Cobb “Red Portrait” specimen. Bottom line is this representation of the legendary “Georgia Peach” symbolizes early 20th century baseball, and “turns back the clock” to an era when the game evolved as America’s pastime.
