Offered is yet another of the important turn-of-the-century Detroit Tigers artifacts, the important 1909 A.C. Dietsche Postcard that portrays 21 members of the club and manager Hughie Jennings and two young boys in a stunning setting at Bennett Park. The 3 1/2-by-5 ½-inch postcard is in an attractive Good condition, arguably presenting a whisker better that its technical grade; the card back bears the copyright line of A.C. Dietsche, Detroit, Mich. 1909, with an October 21, 1909 Postmark at Pontiac, Mich., with the requisite 1-Cent stamp affixed and postmarked. The black-and-white team photograph on the front is a marvelous commemoration of the pennant-winning club that was at the close of what was arguably the greatest run in Detroit history of three consecutive American League pennants. The year 1909 also marked the third consecutive American League batting title for the team’s young star Ty Cobb, who recorded his highest batting average to date at .377 and won the Triple Crown that year. He would go on and add another six consecutive titles en route to recording an unfathomable dozen for his career.
