Here are five tremendously important and coveted examples of one of the more elegant and unusual turn-of-the-century tobacco issues ever produced, the elongated 1912 Hassan Triple Folders. The 2 ¼-by-5-inch cards feature a black-and-white baseball play at the center flanked by what are essentially nearly identical reproductions of the fabulous T205 Gold Border cards from the previous year. The two cards at each end were lightly scored so that they could be folded in to create a booklet effect. Unfortunately here, a collector got a bit carried away and the end cards have been fully separated. Still, given the august group of Hall of Famers and legendary stars pictured, there’s real value to be had with a roster like this: 1) Devlin Gets His Man, with Devlin and Christy Mathewson; 2) Speaker Rounds Third, with Tris Speaker and Smoky Joe Wood; 3) A Desperate Slide, with O'Leary and Ty Cobb (two examples); and 4) Fast Work at Third, also with O’Leary and Cobb.
