April 3, 2025: Spring Auction
This is an attractive, collectable set of one of the key postwar issues that helped launch the modern era of baseball card collecting, a set with an inordinate number of important Rookie cards due to its proximity to the end of the Second World War. The set features all 48 numbers from the issue, with the 2 1/16-by-2 ½-inch black-and-white cards found here in a fairly wide condition range that is not uncommon with this issue. It comes out to roughly equal parts of Fair, Good, VG to VG-Ex and Ex-Mt condition, with eight of the nine SGC slabs deemed Authentic but bearing the “Evidence of Trim” qualification. While the raw cards generally measure reasonably well with the expected dimensions, the observation is made in light of the realization that so many keys returned with the trimmed qualifier. Here is the breakdown of keys: Nos. 1 Elliott Rookie – VG-Ex (odd cut), 2 Blackwell Rookie – Ex-Mt, 3 Kiner Rookie – SGC Authentic (Evidence of Trim), 4 Mize – SGC Authentic (Evidence of Trim), 5 Feller – SGC Authentic (Evidence of Trim), 6 Berra Rookie – SGC Authentic (Evidence of Trim), 7 Reiser – Excellent (mc), 8 Rizzuto Rookie – SGC 1, 12 Sain Rookie – Ex-Mt (odd cut), 14 Reynolds Rookie – Ex-Mt-Plus, 17 Slaughter – SGC Authentic (Evidence of Trim), 18 Spahn Rookie – SGC Authentic (Evidence of Trim), 19 Henrich – Good, 21 Fain – Good, 30 Lockman Rookie – Fair, 35 Stirnweiss Rookie - Very Good, 36 Musial Rookie – SGC Authentic (Evidence of Trim), 38 Schoendienst Rookie – SGC Authentic (Evidence of Trim), 40 Marion Rookie – Ex-Mt-Plus, 41 Barney – Ex (odd cut), 45 Sauter Rookie – Ex-Plus, 47 Thomson Rookie – VG-Ex and 48 Koslo Rookie – VG.
