What more needs to be said other than this is the Rookie card of arguably the most historically impactful player of the postwar era? Reciting the epic background of the man whose uniform No. 42 has been retired by all of Major League Baseball probably isn't needed for a serious collector or casual fan. Despite the relatively crude printing process employed in 1940s baseball cards, there is still dramatic appeal to Jackie’s Rookie based on his glowing smile, the blistering Dodger blue cap and the glowing yellow background color at a time when use of spot color was the technological wonder. His subsequent cards from Topps and Bowman might be more artistically imposing, but certainly nothing dwarfs the significance and historical import of the first card of the first player. Nuff said. This one arrives in a PSA 5 holder, with perfect left-to-right centering, but 75/25 top-to-bottom centering, four sharp corners with only the top right showing some wear, a small discoloration along the border near the top left corner, and impressive color..
