Presented is an attractive complete set of the fabled 1954 Bowman Baseball issue, the unique pastel design that made Bowman’s penultimate set one of the more unusual offerings of the era. The set presented here is in a condition fairly consistent with how these Bowman cards are typically encountered in mature collections, broadly Good to Excellent, with barely more than two dozen falling below, almost all to Fair. The set is headlined by the 1954 Bowman Mickey Mantle card, found here in a PSA 2 slab. Overall, it comes out to 74 percent being Very Good to Excellent and 26 percent Fair to Good; a total of 17 cards present mostly in line with the wider condition range, Very Good to Excellent, but would technically be saddled with a Fair grade because of small pen marks on the back of a couple of letters, a not uncommon foible of boyhood accumulations from the era. The breakdown: No. 1 Rizzuto – Very Good, 7 Fox – VG, 15 Ashburn – VG, 45 Kiner – VG-Ex, 50 Kell – VG, 57 Wilhelm – VG, 58 Reese – Good (mk), 62 Slaughter – VG, 64 Martin – VG, 65 Mantle – PSA 2, 84 Doby – VG-Ex (mk), 89 Mays – Good, 90 Campanella – VG, 95 Roberts – VG, 110 Schoendienst – VG-Ex, 132 Feller – Good, 138 Hodges – VG, 145 Martin – Good, 161 Berra – Good, 164 Wynn – VG, 170 Snider – Good, 177 Ford – VG, 196 Lemon – VG and 211 Lopez – VG.
