One of the truly cool non-sport issues of the 1950s is offered here in a near set that is in particularly stunning condition, essentially Excellent to Ex-Mt, representing 2/3 of the total, with barely more than a dozen cards falling below. The unique 2 1/16-by-2 15/16-inch cards feature colorful and exciting paintings on the front depicting historic moments and individuals, many commemorating some of the most legendary historical and cultural events in world and American history. The backs display attractive newspaper-style headlines and stories, making the intriguing issue a great educational tool. The lot features several dozen cards from the difficult high series and two of the keys, cards of Babe Ruth and Ben Hogan, in sparkling SGC 5 slabs. The lot provides a great start on completing a set of the popular non-sport issue (just over 50 percent); this is a truly handsome array, with nice color and gloss and almost no duplication.
