April 3, 2025: Spring Auction
This is an outstanding group of the colorful and popular Armour Baseball Coins from 1959 and 1960, the 1 ½-inch in diameter plastic discs that featured a raised portrait of the player and boasted a lineup of colors that ranged from traditional reds and blues to sometimes exotic hues seemingly not found in nature. As noted, the array is in wonderful condition, essentially Ex-Mt to Near-Mint, with the emphasis to the upper end of the spectrum, which is saying something for an issue forced to endure the indignity of being deployed alongside hot dogs and other meat products (there was also a mail-in offer). The 1959 near set includes 18 of the 20 with one duplicate, headlined by coins of Ernie Banks, Del Crandall and Whitey Ford; the 1960 near set is missing only the Colavito and Daley coins and includes eight (8) duplicates. The key Mickey Mantle coin has the partial rim on the reverse, a not-uncommon occurrence with the issue, and the Aaron coin is in Good condition. The duplication is as follows: Banks (3 – Green, Light Green and Blue), Crandall (3 – Red, Orange and Light Blue), Malzone (4 – Red, Orange, Green and Light Blue), and Triandos (3 – Red, Light Green and Light Blue).
