April 3, 2025: Spring Auction
The Seventh Series High Numbers and Shortprints in 1962 Topps Baseball are among the most difficult of the era, so what happens when you’ve got a High-Number Proof Sheet with all the Shortprints and Rookie cards, plus a lot more. It’s all there, except for the black ink (an adjacent lot features the same sheet with black ink). The blank-backed treasure is 29-by-21 inches, with a 44-card surface dimension of 14 ½-by-27 ½ inches that is seemingly without issues. The sheet is probably VG-Ex, only because of light staining to two edges, none of which is anywhere near card surfaces. As noted, the lineup is as stunning as the presentation, headlined by Shortprints of Bob Gibson, Willie McCovey, Hoyt Wilhelm and Red Schoendienst, plus the Series Seven Checklist, stars like Bill Rigney, Swish Nicholson, Jim Landis, Art Mahaffey, Gene Oliver, Chuck Estrada and Bill Stafford. But wait, there’s more: all the Rookies (all are Shortprints), including the fun ones like Bob Uecker, Linz/Pepitone and Bo Belinsky, along with the key final card of the issue, the No. 698 Jim Hickman/Manny Jimenez Rookie.
