Chances are good that this monster is right up there with the best of your memory or imagination; it is easily the nicest 1962 set we’ve ever handled and that’s saying something. Ten of the keys are in attractive SGC holders providing a nice glimpse into the wider condition range. This is simply an extraordinary example of a super-clean (front and back) and uniform mostly Nr-Mt to Mint set, with fully 56 percent of the set thusly described, including 235 neatly entombed in mostly PSA 8 holders; there’s even a PSA 9 Mint example, No. 101 Carroll Hardy, Ted Williams’ caddy. Another 16 cards are deemed PSA 7, and when you mix in the vast array of raw cards of similar caliber, you wind up with almost 97 percent of the set in sparkling Near-Mint or better condition. The key Hall of Famers and Rookies easily conform to the broader range, providing a stunning, uniform presentation, with vivid colors and great gloss. Overall, it comes out to 56 percent Near-Mint to Mint, 41 percent Near-Mint to Near-Mint-Plus and three percent below to Ex-Mt or Ex-Mt-Plus. That’s an extraordinary resume for an issue that is easily one of the most difficult of the era because of the condition-sensitive woodgrain borders, and one that also boasts a pricey high-numbered series.
