This is perhaps the most attractive coin set of the era, the 1 3/8-inch in diameter plastic coins that feature a paper insert on the front with striking, full-color artwork depicting the player against a crisp, white background. The coins were issued in Salada Tea and Junket Pudding products, with the initial set complete at 180 coins (10 players per team) before later adding an additional 20 coins for the expansion New York Mets and Houston Colt .45s. Later editions added another 21 players and there are several dozen variations; offered here is the initial 180 and the 20 added from the Mets and Colt .45s as installed in the team plaques that were made available through a mail-in offer. The colorful 9-by-10 ½-inch Plaques are offered here in an outstanding Ex-Mt to Near-Mint condition, neatly matching the coins, with the emphasis clearly to the upper end of the spectrum; as is not uncommon in this presentation, a few of the coins reveal some light fading from sunlight exposure. The Pirates Plaque reveals some light scratches at the edges and similarly minor chipping on the silver team name sticker; there is a minor wrinkle on the silver team sticker for the Cardinals.
