Like an adjacent lot featuring a wide variety of hobby publications, this time the massive group of 103 issues are all from one publisher, albeit one of the most prolific and famous of the lengthy list of hobby pioneers, Dan Dischley. Stretching from 1969 to 1983, the array of magazines is an extraordinary archive, with no duplication, so any listings below with 12 issues of the monthly magazine is complete. The whole group is in really nice overall condition, probably Excellent or better, with some below, with minimal tearing, creasing or extraneous penwork; the issues are typically around 7-by-8 ½ inches, often with various colors used for the paper on covers and spot color employed on many others. The February 1980 issue was one of its most iconic efforts, with a full-color cover announcing the impending arrival of the Perez-Steele Hall of Fame Postcard set, an historic hobby moment wonderfully commemorated by Dischley. The early years of The Trader Speaks were often two, three or even four dozen pages; by the late 1970s and into the giddy 1980s, page counts could often approach 100. Here’s the breakdown of issues per year (103): 1969 – 10 (starting with March), 1970 – 5, 1971 – 11, 1972 – 12, 1973 – 12, 1974 – 8, 1975 – 3, 1976 – 6, 1977 – 9, 1978 – 4, 1979 – 1, 1980 – 6, 1981 – 7, 1982 – 7 and 1983 – 1.
