Presented is a fascinating old-fashioned lot touching on the bittersweet epic Chicago Cubs campaign in 1969 that remains one of the franchises greatest seasons ever, albeit with a less-than-happy ending. Still, the season was replete with highlights and memories fashioned by a legendary cast of characters, all nicely represented in this eclectic array. Here’s the breakdown: 1) Three Cubs autographed balls, including an Official NL Giles ball with more than two dozen signatures, some sharp and some faded a bit, with Durocher on the Sweet Spot, plus Abernathy, Aguirre, Beckert, Hands, Hundley, Kessinger, Popovich, Qualls, Selma, Williams and Young; a second ball with a handful of signatures of Cubs stars from an earlier era, including Lee, Bryant, Stainback, Jurges, Hack and Grimm, on an ONL Frick ball with moderate toning; and the final ball with 26 facsimile signatures amid some light toning; 2) 1969 Cubs 8-by10-inch photos, most are color, including (2) black-and-white from 1969 Opening Day and a composite photo with head shots from 1969, and eight (8) others mostly color with autographs, including Banks, Jenkins, Santo, Williams, Holtzman, Hands, Hickman and Nye; 3) A pair of 8 ½-by11-inch Official Programs, neither scored, with one Ex-Mt and a second Excellent with names penciled in but no scoring; 4) Outstanding 45 rpm record, “The Cubs Sing,” with the record Near-Mint to Mint and the 7-by-7-inch sleeve Ex-Mt; 5) Pristine group of (20) 6-by-9-inch color photos with facsimile signatures, including Banks, Williams, Jenkins, Kessinger, Hands, Holtzman, Hundley, Hickman, Abernathy, Selma, Beckert, Smith, Qualls, Regan, Young, Nye, Popovich and Spangler; 6) Eight (8) VG-Ex ticket stubs from 1969, Near-Mint 4 ½-by-9-inch 1969 Press Guide (44 pages), 1969 Schedule Book of 4 pages (Near-Mint) and three (3) Bumper Stickers, 4-by-11 inches, Near-Mint or better; and 7) “Click With the Cubs” Clicker, 2 ¼-by-4 ½ inches, presents Near-Mint but with some pitting on the back.
