1973 Lance Alworth Chargers Sample Jersey

Presented is a really cool sample jersey from one of the giants (lower case) of the early American Football League, the seven-time AFL All-Star and NFL Hall of Famer Lance Alworth. His name adorns the back of this pristine Chargers jersey, but the mesh fabric and other markers make it clear he could not have worn this shirt. The blue mesh jersey has the V-neck collar and horizontal transverse seam; jersey body is correct for the 1973 Chargers, including shoulder inserts with bolts, with screened-on numeral identifiers and lightning bolts. “Alworth” appears on the back screened on to the nameplate. Sand Knit and Exclusivity labels are on the tail. The first player enshrined in Canton primarily for AFL exploits, Alworth was one of the most-popular players in the fledgling league, helping to bring the credibility that would ultimately prompt that merger that paved the way for the modern NFL behemoth.
