Here is a truly significant gamer from one of the beloved Red Sox figures from their great run in the late 1970s, a grey knit attributed to third sacker Butch Hobson, who turned in the finest campaign of his solid eight-year major league career in 1977. The knit pullover has the red/navy/red V-neck collar, with the fabled “Boston” lettering across the front and Hobson’s No. 4 on the back. Both elements reveal excessive wear beyond major-league use, with bleaching causing fading of the navy blue. That same bleaching has caused fading of the grey for the shirt itself rendering it lighter than normal. Combination McAuliffe tagging at the collar (Size 42) and tail with “1977” and washing instructions. Hobson had a career year in the 1977 season, with highs in home runs (30) and RBI (112), as the club logged 97 wins and finished in second place, 2 ½ games behind the Yankees.
