April 3, 2025: Spring Auction
Here’s an intriguing auction lot with seemingly oddly matched bedfellows: Phantom Postseason Full Tickets from the 1959 Milwaukee Braves and the 1983 Brewers, plus a massive horde of pristine promotional photos from the same Brewers club that missed the postseason that year. All items are in simply sensational condition: the full tickets are pretty uniformly Near-Mint or better, as is the huge group of Mr. Z’s Pizza Color Photos. We'll start with the tickets: 1) 1959 Milwaukee Braves Phantom World Series Tickets – Three full tickets for Games Three, Four and Five of the 1959 World Series, which wound up being played at the Coliseum in Los Angeles rather than at Milwaukee County Stadium. A full 65 years later and it still gives me indigestion. Colorful Tickets are 7-by-7 ½ inches and seemingly in the same condition as when they were mistakenly issued way back when; 2) 1983 Milwaukee Brewers Phantom Postseason Tickets (6), with two for the American League Championship Series and four for the World Series. Pristine ducats measure 7-by-10 ½ inches and are handsomely matted and framed to 11-by-14-inch dimensions; and 3) 1983 Milwaukee Brewers Mr. Pizza Promotional Photos – Spectacular color photos of five Brewer greats from that standout 1983 ball club – Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Rollie Fingers, Cecil Cooper and Jim Gantner. The 5-by-7-inch photos, sponsored by Mr. Z’s Pizza, have a full-color promotional ad on the reverse, are in as-issued condition, with almost three dozen of the Photos found in their original cellophane packaging. Here’s the breakdown (175): Yount (35), Molitor (35), Fingers (36), Cooper (34) and Gantner (35).
