This March 29, 1917 typed letter is signed by Barney Dreyfuss, who owned the Pirates from 1900 until his death in 1932. He is credited with the creation of modern baseball World Series and also built one of the first steel and concrete stadiums, Forbes Field. The letter is typed on Pittsburgh Athletic Company letterhead and actually written to Billy Southworth, who would play for Pittsburgh from 1918-20. The letter reads, "We are in receipt of your telegram 28th, instant, and would state that we also received a wire from Mr. McCredie that he had ordered you to report to the Pittsburgh Club, and that he was writing us." The black fountain pen signature has been authenticated by both PSA/DNA and JSA and arrives with full LOAs from each company. The letter is also accompanied by the original mailing envelope to Southworth.
