Offered is a full uniform, including jersey, pants and stirrup socks, from longtime Washington Senators pitcher Chuck Stobbs, a left-hander who had a solid major-league career but is best known for having surrendered a 565-foot home run to a fledgling Mickey Mantle in 1953, ushering in the concept of the tape-measure home run. It was at the time and remains today one of the longest home runs ever hit in the major leagues, providing Stobbs with a large measure of notoriety beyond his journeyman status. Stobbs compiled a 107-130 record and 4.29 ERA over 15 seasons with five different teams, including two stints with the Senators. The road flannel is in wonderful condition, showing game wear with all appropriate elements intact and problem free. The grey flannel has “Washington” across the front in blue and red tackle twill, with the No. 48 in the same fashion on the back (research notes Stobbs wore No. 18 in 1957). The famed red, white and blue Spalding label appears on the front left tail, with Size 44 flag tag and “Stobbs Set 1 57” embroidered in black beneath; “Stobbs 57” is also embroidered in blue on a grey team tag across the collar. The shirt has a working zipper down the front and the appropriate four vents on each armpit. The pants, not specifically attributed to Stobbs, show game wear comparable to the shirt, with the Spalding label at the back of the waist and team flag tag below with “Set 1 1957”; Size 38 appears embroidered in red alongside in a flag tag with a wash instructions tag at the left of the Spalding label and a “Tucker” handwritten in black marker along the waistband. Four grey buttons are intact along the front. In addition, there is a handsome pair of blue stirrup socks with red and white striping, again showing game use.
