This is a cool artifact from one of the key backup catchers from the 1960s, Don Pavletich, who parlayed his defensive talents and pinch-hitting skills into a 12-year career in the majors from 1959-71. This jersey hails from his finest minor-league campaign, a standout season of 22 home runs, 78 RBI and a .295 batting average that earned him a call-up to Cincinnati the next year. The grey flannel shirt has Wilson Size 44 tagging at the collar at the front tail, with embroidered “1961” team tag below. His No. 2 appears red-on-navy-blue felt on the back and right sleeve, the same format used for “Indianapolis” across the front in all-caps block letters. A team patch has been removed from the left sleeve. The accompanying pants have Wilson Size 32 tagging at the waist and the names “Patterson” and “Bowman 10” handwritten along the waist. All elements appear original and as-issued; there has been some bleeding of the red and navy-blue number from folding on the back.
