This is a nice array of the popular nonsport cards from the World War II era, the 3 1/8-by-2 ½-inch cards that introduced a generation of youngsters to a wealth of information about the war that would dominate so much of their lives. The lot is broken down into five separate Gum Inc. issues dating over the course of World War II, with cards found in generally the condition that these coveted nonsport sets might typically be found. Here’s the breakdown: 1939 World in Arms (13) – generally Good and Very Good, with two Cavalry, two Artillery, four Airplanes, four Ships, a Fortifications card and a Miscellaneous; 1939 War News Pictures (15) – mostly Good to Very Good, with Nos. 32, 73-79, 82-84, 87, 89, 92 and 94; 1940 War News Pictures (13) – mostly Very Good, with Nos. 121-124, 131, 135, 137-142, and 144; 1941 Uncle Sam (7) – mostly Good to Very Good, with Nos. 7 (Poor, trimmed), 18 (Fair), 26 (Fair), 49, 51 and 97; 1941 War Gum (11) - mostly Fair to Good, with Nos. 1 FDR (Fair), 2, 3, 5, 9, 15 Churchill (Good), 18, 19 Marshall (Good), 20, 24 and 40; 1942 War Gum (21) – mostly Good to Excellent, as follows: Excellent: 49 through 60 and 110; Very Good: 42, 123 and 129; Good: 36, 121, 122, 128 and 132.
