One of the most beloved players in the storied history of the Detroit Tigers parlayed his lengthy career and 1968 World Series heroics into a place of endearment with Detroit’s ever-faithful fans that could hardly be matched. This 13-by-10-inch trophy with bronze design elements and gold-plating nameplates was presented to the Tiger great in a ceremony at Tiger Stadium on July 18, 1972, as noted in engraving in the 9-inch gold scrolling across the top of the polished wood plaque. A second smaller (4 inch) nameplate below proclaims that the plaque had been sponsored by the Center Line Boosters and Te Roma Lounge. A 3 ¾-inch in diameter bronze baseball with baseball batter is at the center of the plaque, with Olympic-style wreathes at the bottom. All elements of the trophy appear to be essentially as-issued and problem free, with only a small white scuff at the bottom of the wood base that is not visible as it would be traditionally exhibited.
