This is a remarkable array of commons and minor stars from the elegant 1956 Topps Baseball issue, representing roughly 27 percent of a complete set and including a number of stars and minor stars and most notably many Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees. With its unique depiction of a player portrait amid lush photography of the great ballparks of the postwar era, the set was Topps’ final issue with the oversized cards, adopting the standard 2 ½-by-3 ½-inch dimensions in 1957. Virtually the entire array is Excellent or better, divided almost evenly between Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint (33 percent), Ex-Mt (33 percent) and Excellent to Ex-Plus (29 percent).
