Here is a truly spectacular Chicago Cubs home gamer worn by the longtime coach and major league manager Frank Luchessi during the Cubs’ 1987 season. The handsome home pullover pinstripe shirt shows considerable game usage with some dirt and light staining on the front but remains in superb overall condition. The famed Cubs logo appears at the front in red and blue tackle twill and the Cubbies mascot logo is on the left sleeve in the same fashion. Luchessi’s No. 29 appears on the back in blue tackle twill with some fraying of the delicate stitching and even a bit of separation on the No. 2, which is visible only upon close examination and does not detract from the presentation in any fashion. Blue elastic trim is featured on the collar and sleeves; the Rawlings red label appears at the back of the collar above a team tag with “52 87 1 44” in blue embroidery. Luchessi replaced Cubs manager Gene Michael in the closing months of a disappointing 1987 campaign that included arrival of both Greg Maddux as a rookie (cup of coffee in 1986) and Andre Dawson as a free agent.
