This H&B model R143 dates to the 1972 labeling periold and was used by Lou Brock. The bat measures 35 inches and weighs 31.6 oz, and is made of Ash with a standard finish. It exhibits evidence of outstanding use with a handle crack, along with some grain swelling from repeated contact with the ball on the back of the barrel. Numerous ball marks are visible on the right barrel along with cleat marks on the left barrel. The handle has been scored to enhance the grip and there is a heavy coat of pine tar on the handle, with R143 stamped into the knob and Brock’s uniform number “20” in black marker. The bat has been graded by John Taube of PSA/DNA and assigned a final grade of GU 8.5. Brock hit .311, scored 81 runs and led the league with 63 stolen bases in 1970.
