Cardboard display sign (8.75 x 6 inches) issued to promote R308 "Surprise Pictures." The novelty of the "Surprise Picture" cards (as noted by the illustrated directions on the display) was in their transformation. The cards were simply plain white cards. However, when one removed the blotting paper, dipped it in water and rubbed it on the face of the card, an image of a movie star, famous person, or a baseball player would magically appear. According to the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, 51 baseball players are currently checklisted from the set. This cardboard sign was intended for placement within or alongside the retail box of gum packages being sold. MINT condition.
