Here is a striking example of the charming 1964 Topps Monsters from Outer Limits, the non-sport classic loosely based on the ABC television show from the period, certainly one of the more popular entertainment card offerings in the Sci-fi genre. The presented set is in a sterling Ex-Mt to Near-Mint condition, with the emphasis to the upper end of the spectrum. The card fronts portray strange creatures developed from black-and-white publicity stills from the television show that were then colorized by the Topps, er, Bubbles Inc., crew, ostensibly a Topps subsidiary utilized for potentially bizarre or controversial entries. The black-bordered cards are such that finding high-grade examples can be especially difficult. In an odd turn, while the card fronts evolve from the TV show, the card backs have write-ups not linked with the programs because of disputes about paying the show’s writers for use of their copy. In addition to the attractive regular-issue set, the lot also includes an Ex-Mt wax pack wrapper. A breakdown of a handful of condition anomalies: No. 1 – VG-Ex, 10 – Ex, 11 – Ex, 28 – Ex, 29 – Ex, 38 – Ex, 39 – Ex, 44 – VG-Ex and 48 – Ex.
