Here’s an opened case from one of the great Topps football issues of the decade of the 1970s, the 1976 set that features the iconic Rookie card of Hall of Famer Walter Payton. Kind of fun to imagine what this case might have looked like when full, housing 16 boxes of Topps wax packs, with 36 packs in each box. The empty case survived the last 43 years in reasonably good fashion; the top of the box has been cut off and discarded and there’s some of the expected nudges and light bruising, plus a small section has been torn away (and still hanging) on the inside. Some clear packing tape has been affixed to one end, likely holding one side in place.
