Offered is a truly rare opportunity to pick up complete all-graded sets of the most important hockey issue of the Depression Era, the unique 1933-34 O-Pee-Chee V304 sets, both A and B in a stunning overall condition dramatically better than these cards are typically found in older accumulations. While modern collectors typically think of O-Pee-Chee as a kind of Topps junior subsidiary from up north, the company actually predates Topps in producing sports cards, adding additional import to this issue. The 3-by-3 9/16-inch cards themselves feature a black-and-white player photo imposed upon a star design background that can be found in four different colors: blue, red, green and orange. The cards have bilingual biographies on the backs, along with designations of Series A or B. Finding both series in such a striking overall condition – 3.9 GPA – is nothing short of extraordinary. There are 48 cards in all in Series A, which as O-Pee-Chee’s first issue is loaded with more than a dozen Rookie cards and 18 Hall of Famers, with the key cards showing two of hockey's biggest legends, Howie Morenz and Ernie Shore. Other major stars include Charlie Conacher, King Clancy and Nels Stewart. There are 24 cards in Series B, and they are numbered from 49-72 to continue where the V304A set left off. While they are considered to be scarcer than the first series cards, 1933-34 O-Pee-Chee V304B Hockey contains fewer stars, with Aurel Joliat and Babe Seibert as the key cards in the issue.
