Presented is a virtually mint condition example of the Red Dooin card in the coveted 1910 E98 “Set of 30,” a card that looks precisely as it might have looked when it rolled off the presses despite its fabled 110-year heritage. The catcher/manager Dooin never looked better than in this remarkable blood-red masterpiece that comes in at an amazing SGC 8.5 Near-Mint to Mint-Plus. The E98s were among the scarcest of the turn-of-the-century Caramel cards, an evaluation hardly jostled by the remarkable “Black Swamp Find” in Defiance, Ohio, eight years ago. The pristine E98s in this auction look for all the world like the denizens of that mystical attic find, and this amazing Dooin specimen is among the highest-graded cards in this array.
