Offered is a standout example of the Larry McLean card in the coveted 1910 E98 “Set of 30,” a card that looks seemingly as it might have looked when it rolled off the presses despite its fabled 110-year heritage. McLean was a hard-drinking, brawling 6-foot-5-inch catcher who played for five different major league clubs in his 13-year career, including a stint with the New York Giants under the legendary John McGraw, who he scuffled with in 1915, effectively ending his major league career. Six years later he would die at age 39, shot by a presumably disgruntled bartender. Colorful/tragic backstory aside, McLean is handsomely presented in this SGC 7 Near-Mint blazer, a card so pristine that it seemingly could have been part of the historic “Black Swamp Find” of eight years ago, and in any event is among the highest-graded cards in this array.
