At a time when baseball was easily atop the sporting world, this attractive multi-sport offering from Indian and Big League Gum leveled the playing field for the moment with a spectacular 48-card set that showcased almost every conceivable professional and amateur sport, from billiards, bowling, golf and tennis to swimming, boxing and bike racing and everything in between. Presented here is an imposing accumulation of the popular 2 3/8-by-2 7/8-inch cards, the same size as the venerable Goudey baseball issues of the same period. This grouping is headlined by a PSA 2 example of the No. 1 Ty Cobb card, the second most-expensive card in the issue behind No. 2 Babe Ruth. This array of cards has minimal duplication and presents in primarily Good to Very Good condition, a range fairly typical of how these beauties are found in older collections. In another nuance often encountered in prewar card accumulations, about ½ of the grouping has a small notation of the letter “J,” typically in the upper right-hand corner, where ardent young collectors felt compelled to initialize their holdings. In this instance the “J” is largely unobtrusive and only nominally detracts from the presentation.
