Here then is an old-fashioned style accumulation of 1959 Topps Baseball, found in a condition that reflects both the passage of six decades and the kind of enthusiastic handling that such cards often received at the hands of the youth of America. Still, at 854 cards it represents a real opportunity to pick up the lion’s share of a complete set, with many duplicates of even the great Hall of Famers, albeit in a condition range that would be broadly described as Fair to Good, with dozens of cards inching up the scale to Very Good or occasionally even Excellent, and quite a few below at Poor. Largely confined to the first six series, the array does include a single high-number All-Star, along with two dozen different Hall of Famers (70 cards in total) and huge groupings of stars, minor stars and specials. Here’s a partial breakdown of important cards, most conforming to the broader condition range: Mantle (Fair), Snider (4), Fox, Spahn (2), Mays (Fair), Alou Rookie (2), Bunning (3), Musial (Fair), Slaughter, Koufax (Good), Berra (2), Maris (2), Wynn (3), Hodges (2), Ashburn (5), Aparicio, Anderson, Wilhelm (2), Banks (2), Roberts (3), Herzog (4), Aaron (4, one is VG), Mazeroski (3), Drysdale (3), Cepeda (7), Ford (3), Frank Robinson (8), Brooks Robinson (2), Mathews (2). Aaron Thrill and Cepeda All-Star, plus nearly two dozen of the popular Combination cards, including NL Hitting Kings, Fence Busters and Keystone Combo.
