The first of the Topps "Super" issues were, at least in size, not "super" at all - unlike the 1970 and 1971 issues, the 1969 cards measured just 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" and were given the "super" moniker to describe their high-gloss finish and colorful photographs. In comparison with the traditional 1969 issue, the "Super" cards simply resemble borderless 1969 Topps, with the player name, team and position printed on the reverse. Considered a test issue, the 1969 Topps Super cards are tougher to find, with complete sets selling well into the thousands of dollars even in mid grades. The 66-card issue is loaded with Hall of Famers (nearly a third of the issue's subjects so enshrined) and superstars from the era. The undisputed key card to the issue is that of Mickey Mantle. Presented here is a perfect example, graded PSA 8.5.
