Here is an impressive game-worn home pinstripe Cubs jersey from 1979, attributed to coach Peanuts Lowrey and revealing multiple number changes. The shirt shows decent game wear, with light fading of the blue on the elastic collar and sleeves and a Wilson Size 42 label at the back of the collar, along with team embroidered tagging of “2 79 1 42” affixed directly beneath it. The famed Cubs disc logo appears on the left sleeve and the fabled “C” red and blue logo emblem is affixed to the front of the shirt, with some fraying of the white stitching and visible puckering that appears to be attributable to an erratic sewing effort; the same seamstress may have handled Lowrey’s No. 2 on the back, which reveals considerable fraying of the delicate white stitching. The No. 2 itself is affixed to the right side of the shirt, with the residue of a No. 5 at left having been removed and a white team tag above with a handwritten “World” appearing in mirror-like fashion to the embroidered “2 79 1 42” tagging at the inside of the collar.
