The classic Size 40 Button-Down knit jersey is attributed to Giants right-hander Don Robinson, a veteran of 15 years in the major leagues who was one of the best-hitting pitchers of his time. The all-original shirt has the interlocking “SF” logo on the front left in black and orange tackle twill. The shirt shows light game use, with the appropriate Rawlings Size 52, with flag tag of “Set 1 1988” alongside and embroidered “88 40” flag tag below; in addition there is a flag tag of “4 Inch Extra Length” as part of the cluster around the Rawlings label and “Purchased from the San Francisco Giants” stamping on the inside tail button path. Robinson’s name appears across the back on a grey nameplate above his No. 40; both elements are in orange and black tackle twill, with only the barest of light fraying of the delicate stitching on the number. Shirt has the back striping around the collar and on each side of the button path, plus the black and orange elastic striping on the sleeves. Robinson ended his sterling major league career with a 109-106 log, an ERA of 3.79 and 1,251 strikeouts, numbers nicely complemented by a trio of Silver Slugger Awards he secured from the batter’s box.
