Here is a pair of World Series programs from the Detroit Tigers highlighting their two World Series appearances in the 1940s. The first showcases the Tigers 1940 encounter with the Cincinnati Reds as World War II loomed on the horizon, while the second notes the club’s 1945 World Series against the Cubs only months after the war’s end. The 44-page program from 1940 is neatly housed in a striking 15-by-12-inch wooden plaque. The 8 ¼-by-11-inch program from Briggs Stadium in Detroit presents in what would be Excellent condition, with only some wear along the spine and minor creasing on the lower right corner of the cover probably dictating a lower grade. In addition, the unscored pages from the center double truck have tiny, barely perceptible pencil check marks alongside the players’ name, with the original owner apparently carefully taking attendance to make sure everyone was present. The program slides into a plexiglass holder that is affixed to the polished Cherrywood plaque. Beneath the holder is a nameplate with “World Series 1940, Cincinnati Reds, Briggs Stadium” engraved. The second program from 1945 is 20 pages and presents nearly in Excellent condition, with some slight wear to one corner of the cover. Like its counterpart, the program is housed in a plexiglass holder that is affixed to the polished Cherrywood plaque. Beneath the holder is a nameplate with “World Series 1945, Chicago Cubs, Briggs Stadium” engraved. The plaques themselves are essentially as-issued and in pristine condition, save only for a couple tiny nicks to the polished cherrywood finish that can only be spotted upon close examination.
