Submitted for your consideration is an example from the fabled 1887-90 Old Judge Series, the 19th century pioneering baseball card issue that would mark the launch of the card collecting hobby. The Charlie Sprague Cleveland/Leaning Forward is found here in a PSA 1.5 holder. Issued by the Goodwin & Co. tobacco firm, the ostensibly 1 7/16-by-2 ½-inch cards picture more than 500 different players from as many as 40 different major and minor-league teams, often with a huge number of pose, team and caption variations.
