November 19, 2020: Fall Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/19/2020
Offered is a simply spectacular partial set of the 1959 Topps Baseball First Series cards, an unparalleled group of predominantly Near-Mint or Near-Mint to Mint or better cards culled from Nos. 2-110 and including the likes of Duke Snider, Ted Kluszewski, Herb Score and the Felipe Alou Rookie. The partial set – with no duplication - is likely the nicest array of this particular segment of 1959 Topps that we have ever offered, an array highlighted by blazing, vivid colors, superb gloss and centering to die for. Three slabbed cards are included in the mix as well: No. 22 – PSA 6, No. 60 Turley – PSA 8 and No. 95 – PSA 7. It comes out to fully 81 percent at the top end of the spectrum at Near-Mint or Near-Mint to Mint or Better, and 19 percent Ex-Mt to Ex-Mt-Plus. If the occasion calls for upgrading even the snappiest 1959 set, this lot probably fits the bill; it would also work handsomely to launch on completing the whole set. Here’s the breakdown: Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint or Better (46) – No. 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 12, 14, 16, 20 Snider, 27, 28, 29, 31, 34 Pitchers Beware – Kaline/Maxwell, 41, 42, 43, 46, 49, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 59, 60 Turley – PSA 8, 63, 64, 65, 70 Kuenn, 71, 75, 78, 79, 80 Minoso, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 88 Score, 91, 95 – PSA 7, 98, 102 Alou Rookie and 110; Ex-Mt to Ex-Mt-Plus (11) – No. 4, 19, 21, 22 – PSA 6, 24, 30 Fox, 32, 35 Kluszewski, 37, 66 and 101.
