This is a simply startling grouping of 1963 Topps Baseball cards that looks for all the world as though they just emerged from packs, albeit packs that stretched the concept of duplication to epic proportions. The lineup includes some minor stars and valued journeymen, but with this group it’s condition, condition, condition. In an issue noted for its condition sensitivity because of the delicate full-bleed color panels at the bottom of most cards, this group is easily Near-Mint to Mint, and probably even better, with only a handful reaching Ex-Mt because of some nominal handling over the last 57 years. They appear “pack fresh” but contradict that notion with the famous “vending bend” that for decades has been the hallmark of pristine, uncirculated pasteboards. With that kind of pedigree, it’s hardly surprising that there’s virtually none of the dreaded “chipping” of those aforementioned delicate panels; with cards clearly from vending there is inevitably some of the centering anomalies that are part and parcel of the genre. At a total of 277 cards divided between 10 different players, that means duplication and then some, so we'll list these accordingly: No. 156 Roy McMillan (77), No. 119 Bob Lillis (48), No. 46 Tommie Aaron (50), No. 117 Jackie Davis (46), No. 196 Doug Camilli (15), No. 49 Dal Maxvill (14), No. 198 Lenny Green (10), No. 70 Jim O'Toole (9), No. 100 Joe Cunningham (7), and No. 98 George Thomas (1).
