Offered is a high-grade example of an important mid-1960s football card issue, the 1967 Philadelphia Gum set that depicted players from the National Football League at a time when Topps had stepped back from the veteran circuit to focus for several years on the fledgling American Football League. The set presents in a uniform and consistent fashion, essentially Excellent to Near-Mint, with about a dozen cards reaching above the range at Near-Mint to Mint and only about two dozen falling below Excellent. It comes out to approximately 50 percent being Near-Mint or better and about 39 percent Excellent to Ex-Mt, and only 11 percent or so below. A sizable number of cards – maybe 20 percent or so – have the kind of centering that might prompt thoughts of an upgrade, though not all of those would be severe enough to warrant an official off-center designation (six cards miscut).
