This is an enormous array of important Topps football cards that includes literally hundreds of Hall of Famers and stars from 1973 to 1983, with considerable duplication in some instances, often involving the HOFers and stars. A 1984 Topps John Elway Rookie card in a BGS 8 slab sets the tone for this extraordinary accumulation, which begs for close examination. Here’s the breakdown (numbers are approximate): 1973 Topps (100) – Excellent to Ex-Mt, with some below, and including a dozen Hall of Famers – Green, Taylor, Mackey and Stabler; 1975 Topps (75) – mostly Excellent to Ex-Mt, with some below and the emphasis to Excellent, with nine HOFers – Simpson, Tarkenton (2), Bradshaw and Dawson; 1977 (600) – mostly Near-Mint, with some below, with 45 Hall of Famers – Griese, Csonka, Tarkenton and Warfield – there are almost three dozen of the Checklist cards, rougher than the broader group, more like Very Good to Excellent, with about 75 percent marked; 1978 Topps (850) – mostly Ex-Mt to Nr-Mt and better, with a few above and quite a few Excellent, the emphasis to Near-Mint and a goodly number of Nr-Mt to Mt blazers – more than 50 HOFers – Dorsett (2), Payton, Bradshaw, Staubach (2), Griese (2), Stallworth, Harris, Tarkenton and Griese – special note … there are 80 cards of Terry Nelson, virtually all in the same blazing condition; 1979 Topps (675) – mostly Ex-Mt to Near-Mint or better, with 60 Hall of Famers – Campbell (2), Payton, Dorsett, Simpson, Fouts, Griese, Tarkenton and Bradshaw; 1980 (950) – mostly Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint, with some Ex-Mt, and loaded with 40 HOFers and many more Specials – Payton, Dorsett, Csonka, Bradshaw and Fouts; 1982 (800) – Nr-Mt to Mt or better, with some below, vast majority clearly from vending – three dozen HOFers – Lott Rookie, Payton, Bradshaw, Harris, Dorsett, Fouts and Harris; 1983 (38).
