The colorful and important Star Co. issues from 1983-85 sustained the basketball collecting arena for the interval of 1983-85 after the withdrawal of Topps and the arrival of Fleer three years later. While most of their production centered around conventional-sized 2 ½-by-3 ½-inch cards, the company also produced a number of simply spectacular oversized cards like these 5-by-7-inch beauties dubbed Team Supers. This offering of 40 cards is headlined by Michael Jordan (BGS 8 - subgrades: 9 centering, 9 edges, 9 corners, 7 surface), Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Dominique Wilkins and Julius Erving, among others. Better yet, the Pistons and Rockets remain sealed in their original team bags. Simply put, these oversized Star Co. cards are stunning in their presentation, arguably one of the more successful efforts by a mainstream card manufacturer to produce issues significantly larger than the regular-issue versions. The Star Co. issues bridged the gap from 1983-85 with cards that were never issued in the conventional fashion in packs with gum but rather were sold in individual team or subset sealed bags through card dealers across the country.
