Presented is an important lot of vintage Wire Photos from 1951-61, touching on some of the great moments in 1950s baseball lore and legend, including World Series heroics and even old-timer’s games at Yankee Stadium. Included with some of the photos – generally 8-by-10 inches or slightly smaller – are often stamping from United Press International or the Associated Press, plus some notations from newspaper or magazine editorial staffers. Most include detailed cutline information from staffers with information about dates, game information and players. Here’s the breakdown (10): 1) 1951 - Joe Collins stands at second; 2) Leo Durocher shouts to his team on 9-27-51 pennant stretch run that resulted in the three-game Playoff with Dodgers and set the stage for “The Shot Heard ‘Round the World”; 3) Larry Jansen and Sal Maglie on 9-28-51 during stretch run; 4) Collins slides safely into home on 6-6-54; 5) Snider catches flyball in Game Five in 1956 World Series, Larsen’s “Perfect Game”; 6) 1957 All-Star Game starting pitchers and managers – Casey Stengel, Jim Bunning, Walt Alston and Curt Simmons; 7) 1959 Old-Timer’s Day at Yankee Stadium with Eddie Stanky, Lloyd Waner, Hank Gowdy and Bill McKechnie; 8) 1959 Old-Timer’s Day at Yankee Stadium with Joe McCarthy and Stengel; 9) 1959 Old-Timer’s Day at Yankee Stadium, as Dizzy Dean pitches to Red Rolfe, with Gabby Hartnett catching; and 10) 1961 All-Star Game composite photo of National League starting lineup.
