Presented is an important Ty Cobb card from one of the difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes offering that mimics the images of T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. Among the keys are the Ty Cobb cards, including this Portrait example that is found in an SGC Authentic holder, noting Evidence of Trimming; while there is notable staining on the reverse, the front of the card presents markedly better than the technical grade. The card has good centering; the striking red background color nicely sets off the portrait, and the “Cobb, Detroit” typeface in blue is one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts.
