Presented is an important Chief Bender card from one of the difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes Type 2 offering that mimics the images of T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. Offered is a nice example of “No Trees Baltimore,” one of six Bender variations in the set that is found here in a PSA 1 holder and arguably presents better than its technical grade, which hinges on some paper loss front and back that is oddly unobtrusive. The card centering right to left is probably 55/45 and close to that top to bottom; the pastel blue and green background colors nicely set off the image of Bender, and the “Bender, Baltimore Fed,” typeface in blue is one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts. The card has a reasonably clean back, with only modest staining and grime, along with the previously mentioned paper loss.
