Presented is an important Chief Bender card from one of the difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes Type 2 offering that mimics the images of T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. Offered is a nice an example of “No Trees, Philadelphia Amer.,” one of six Bender variations in the set that is found here in an SGC Authentic (Altered) holder. The card has light staining and some dirt, with rounded corners and erratic cuts on two sides; the pastel blue and green background colors showcase the image of Bender, and the “Bender, Philadelphia Amer.” typeface in blue, one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts, is jostled here by some staining and toning. The card has been affixed to a piece of cardboard with an erratic cut on all four sides.
