Presented is an attractive Christy Mathewson card from one of the difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes offering that mimics the images of T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. Not surprisingly, the “Big Six” is one of the keys to that issue, with a nice example here that is found in a PSA 1 holder. The card centering is roughly 80/20 right to left; the card back has some toning and light staining. The pastel blue and green background colors nicely set off the image of Mathewson, and the “Mathewson, New York Nat,” typeface in blue is one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts.
