Presented is an attractive Clark Griffith card from one of the difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes Type 2 offering that mimics the images of T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. The Hall of Famer Griffith is featured here in a nice example that is found in an SGC 1 holder, with decent centering right to left and a very slight bias to the bottom; the pastel yellow and green background colors nicely set off the image of Griffith, and the “Griffith, Washington” typeface in blue is sharp and one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts. The Coupon Cigarettes back has staining and toning.
