Presented is an extremely attractive Eddie Collins card from one of the difficult early tobacco issues, the 1914 T213 Coupon Cigarettes Type 2 offering that mimics the images of T206 cards but is markedly rarer. The fact that the cards were produced and distributed almost exclusively in Louisiana only adds to their cachet. With three Collins variations included in the set, this example of Philadelphia A on Shirt is one of the more dramatic cards in the set. The lustrous burgundy background makes for a particularly compelling presentation, with a nice example here that is found in a PSA 1 holder but presents a good deal better than the technical grade. The card centering is roughly 80/20 left to right; the burgundy background is uncommonly pristine and vivid. The card back has some paper loss, toning and light staining. The “Collins, Philadelphia Amer.” typeface in blue is outstanding and one of the distinctive elements that differentiates it from its T206 counterparts.
